On August 8, 2024, in Montreal, the Coopérative d’habitation de la Pointe Amicale (Bâtir son quartier) purchased a building from 9403-6159 Québec Inc. (Stéphane L’Espérance and Malo Holdings Inc.) for $31.4 million. This $37.4M project aims to construct two buildings of 3 and 4 stories on rue Bourgeoys, offering 93 social and affordable housing units for families and individuals.
The project is financed by the Société d’habitation du Québec, the City of Montreal, and the Sud-Ouest Borough of Montreal. It will contribute to revitalizing the area of the former CN railway workshops.
The development will provide much-needed affordable housing in the area, addressing the growing demand for accessible living spaces in Montreal. By transforming an existing property into social housing, the project aligns with urban renewal efforts and community development goals.
This initiative demonstrates a collaborative approach between housing cooperatives, government bodies, and local authorities to tackle housing challenges in urban areas. The project’s location near former industrial sites highlights the ongoing transformation of Montreal’s urban landscape, repurposing areas for residential use and community benefit.
